Permaculture Design
Permaculture design is about creating landscapes that work with nature rather than against it. This means systems that are self-sustaining, abundant, and ecologically balanced. One of the most rewarding ways to apply permaculture principles is by building an edible landscape or “food forest,” where layers of trees, shrubs, vines, herbs, and groundcovers provide food, medicine, and habitat year after year. We help clients transform their properties into living, productive ecosystems that feed both people and wildlife.

The principles of permaculture are rooted in three core ethics:
-
care for the earth
-
care for people
-
fair share (returning surplus to the system)
In practice, this means designing landscapes that conserve water, recycle nutrients, build soil health, and support biodiversity. We choose plants that work together in mutually beneficial “guilds,” arrange them for natural pest control and pollination, and create spaces that are beautiful as well as functional. Whether on a small urban lot or a larger rural property, we adapt these principles to suit your goals, site conditions, and level of maintenance commitment.

The benefits of a permaculture approach extend far beyond your own property. Edible landscapes reduce dependence on long-distance food systems, provide vital green spaces for pollinators and other wildlife, and help build climate resilience through healthier soils and diverse plantings. They also create opportunities for sharin surplus produce with neighbours or knowledge and skills within the community. By investing in permaculture design, you’re not just planting a garden, you are cultivating a regenerative system that supports ecology, food security, and interpersonal connection.
