Under the City of Nanaimo’s Tree Protection Bylaw, if a permit is issued for the removal of a tree, in most cases planting one or more replacement trees is a mandatory requirement of compliance with the permit. Replacement requirements can vary based on the size and type of the tree removed, and the City may also specify species that meet urban forestry goals.
