Tree Planting
Tree planting is one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve a landscape, and it’s a service we’re happy to provide. While it may seem straightforward, dig a hole and put a tree in, successful planting requires attention to detail to ensure the tree establishes well and thrives over time. Whether you are adding a single feature tree or building out a larger planting plan, we can help set the foundation for long-term health and growth.
Tree planting is often undertaken as part of a broader plan for your property, whether that’s improving aesthetics, adding shade, or supporting local ecology. In many cases, it is also a requirement under the City of Nanaimo’s Tree Protection Bylaw, where permits for tree removal require one or more replacement trees to be planted. These requirements can vary depending on the size and type of tree removed, and approved species may be specified to align with urban forestry goals. Planting is also a proactive way to enhance curb appeal, support wildlife habitat, improve air quality, and contribute to local food production, in the case of fruit and nut trees.
We approach tree planting as more than just putting a tree in the ground. We help select appropriate species for your site and goals, and ensure proper installation through soil preparation, thoughtful placement, and early care. This can include soil amendments where needed, staking for stability, and protective measures such as cages or fencing to guard against browsing by deer and other wildlife. Our goal is to give every tree the best possible start, so it can grow strong and contribute to your landscape for years to come.
The City of Nanaimo offers a tree voucher program to incentivize maintaining a residential tree canopy. Click the link here for more information and to apply.
