View Clearing
For many homeowners, a well-managed view is part of what makes a property feel like home and can be the location's greatest asset. Whether it is a view of the ocean Salish Sea or a view of Te’tuxwtun (Mount Benson), maintaining your view is an important part of property maintenance. View clearing is the thoughtful, selective pruning or removal of vegetation to restore or enhance sightlines while preserving the health and character of the landscape. At Yeomen Tree Service Co-operative, we approach view clearing with a deep respect for both your goals and the long-term integrity of your trees.

When done properly, view enhancement is careful assessment, crown thinning, or even strategic removal of understorey trees and shrubs, and not drastic cutting or topping. We work with you to identify which trees or branches are impacting your view and develop a plan that balances your desired outcome with tree health, safety, and bylaw compliance. In many cases, minor adjustments can yield significant improvements, especially when combined with seasonal maintenance.

It’s important to note that, as a general practice, we do not top trees. Furthermore, City of Nanaimo staff have indicated that permit permit applications for topping trees for view enhancement will not likely be approved. Topping a tree is often just a short-term fix that can lead to long-term problems. Our team offers alternatives that maintain natural form, support forest health, and respect both municipal regulations and your property’s future. If you're looking to improve your view the right way, we’re here to help you do it responsibly.
